Ancient Theatre of Ohrid

Theatre Ohrid, Jugozapaden, Macedonia

What to expect

The Ancient Theatre of Ohrid is a historical building located in the old town of Ohrid, between the two hills Gorni Saraj and Deboj. It was built in 200 BC, during the late Hellenistic period, and is the only Hellenistic-type theatre in Macedonia. The theatre was used for plays, musical and poetry performances, and later for gladiator fights during Roman times. Today, it is a popular site for public performances, such as plays, concerts, operas, and ballet performances, including the Ohrid Summer Festival. The theatre has a perfect location, surrounded by two hills that protect it from winds and provide good acoustics. It is a great place to visit with family and friends to learn about the rich history of Macedonia and enjoy cultural events
