Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and archaeological significance. The area is characterized by tall, near-vertical mountains of iron-rich, erosion-resistant sandstone, separated by flat-bottom valleys of alluvial sediments, aeolian sands, and salt pans. Wadi Rum has a rich history, with evidence of human presence dating back thousands of years, including petroglyphs and rock engravings. The area is home to several Bedouin communities and offers a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, rock climbing, and camel rides.
