Thunder Gates

Gate Tokyo, Japan

What to expect

The Kaminarimon Gate, also known as the Thunder Gate, is a famous landmark and the main entrance to Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. The gate is known for its giant red lantern, which is 3.9 meters high, 3.3 meters wide, and weighs 700 kilograms. The lantern is adorned with a wooden carving of a traditional Japanese dragon and is surrounded by statues of the wind god Fujin and the thunder god Raijin. The gate has been destroyed by fire several times throughout history, but the current gate was rebuilt in 1960. Visitors can take photos in front of the gate, which is free to visit and accessible at all times. The gate is also illuminated in the evenings, making it a great spot to take pictures when the crowds have thinned out. The area around the gate is bustling with tourists, worshippers, and shoppers, and is a great place to explore with family and friends
