Ueno Park is a large public park in the Ueno district of Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. The park was established in 1873 on lands formerly belonging to the temple of Kan'ei-ji and is one of Japan's oldest and most famous parks. It is home to several museums, including the Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum of Western Art, and the National Science Museum, as well as Ueno Zoo, Japan's first zoological garden. The park is also famous for its cherry blossoms and hanami, with over 1,000 cherry trees lining its central pathway. The park also features Shinobazu Pond, a small lake with lotus beds and marshland, which provides an important wintering ground for birds. The park has a statue of Saigo Takamori, a famous samurai, and several temples and shrines, including the Ueno Toshogu Shrine and the Kiyomizu Kannon-do
