Namba Yasaka Shrine is a unique and standout destination among Osaka's sacred spots. The shrine is famous for its impressive lion head-shaped building called Ema-Den, which measures 12-meters high by 11-meters wide. The lion's eyes seem to stare right at you and its wide mouth reveals pointed teeth, but its open jaw is meant to swallow evil spirits and leave you with good fortune. The shrine is also a pleasant springtime spot thanks to its numerous cherry blossoms. Visitors can enjoy the Tug-of-War ritual, which is held every year on the third Sunday in January, and is based on the story of how the enshrined deity, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, defeated the Yamata no Orochi and relieved the people of their hardships. The shrine is a great place to visit with family and friends, and its unique architecture and beautiful surroundings make it a must-see destination in Osaka
