Todai-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple complex and a landmark of Nara, Japan. The temple was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan and is home to the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known as the Daibutsu. The temple complex includes several smaller temple halls and sites of interest, such as the Nandaimon Gate, which is watched over by two fierce-looking statues representing the Nio Guardian Kings. Visitors can also explore the Daibutsuden Hall, which houses the massive bronze Buddha statue, and the surrounding gardens and grounds. The temple is a great place to visit with family and friends to learn about Japanese history and culture
