What to expect

The Imperial Palace Park, located in the heart of Kyoto, is a spacious park that encompasses the Kyoto Imperial Palace, the Sento Imperial Palace, and other historic sites. The park serves as a recreational space for both tourists and residents, featuring attractive gravel paths, lawns, and tree groves. Visitors can explore the palace grounds and see the palace buildings and gardens, although none of the buildings can be entered. The park is also home to a few other historic sites, including the Kaninnomiya Mansion and a small branch shrine of Miyajima's famous Itsukushima Shrine. A pretty group of weeping cherry trees stands beside Konoe Pond in the park's northwestern corner, which is usually in bloom for two to three weeks from late March to mid-April
