What to expect

Fushimi Inari-taisha is a famous Shinto shrine located in Kyoto, known for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters. The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice, and is famous for its fox statues, which are thought to be Inari's messengers. Visitors can explore the mountain trails, which take about 2-3 hours to hike, and enjoy the beautiful views of Kyoto. The shrine also has a main hall where visitors can pay respect to the resident deity and make a small offering. Along the way, there are multiple smaller shrines and restaurants that offer locally themed dishes.
