Peace Memorial Park

Museum Hiroshima-shi, Hiroshima, Japan

What to expect

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a large park in the center of Hiroshima city, built near the hypocenter in hopes of lasting world peace. The park features several memorials and museums, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, a World Heritage Site, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and the Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims. Visitors can also see the Children's Peace Monument, which was built with funds donated from all over Japan to pray for world peace and the peaceful repose of the many children killed by the atomic bomb. The park is also home to the Peace Bell, which is rung with a wish for peace. The story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who died of leukemia after being exposed to the atomic bomb, is also commemorated in the park, and visitors can learn about her story and the significance of the paper cranes that have become a symbol of peace
