Hiroshima Castle

Castle Hiroshima-shi, Hiroshima, Japan

What to expect

Hiroshima Castle, also known as Carp Castle, is a castle located in Hiroshima, Japan. The castle was originally constructed in the 1590s, but was largely destroyed by the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The present tower was rebuilt in 1958 as a replica of the original and now serves as a museum of Hiroshima's history before World War II. The castle is a good example of a castle built on a plain in the center of a city, with a five-story tall main keep and a moat surrounding its grounds. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city from the top floor of the keep and explore the castle's precincts, which include a shrine, ruins, and reconstructed buildings. The castle is a significant historical site and a symbol of the city's strength and ability to survive and flourish after a devastating event
