What to expect

Sakushima Island is a small island located in Mikawa Bay, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The island is known for its natural beauty, with a coastline of 11 kilometers, low cliffs, and forests covering most of the island. It is also home to 22 modern art installations and sculptures, making it an 'outdoor art gallery'. The island has a rich history, with evidence of human presence dating back to the Jomon period, and it prospered during the Edo period as a safe harbor and trading hub. Today, the island has a population of around 250 people, mostly elderly, who live in two small villages. The island is a popular destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy nature, art, and seafood. Visitors can walk around the island, admire the art, and enjoy the seasonal flowers, birds, and seafood specialties. The island is also home to several festivals, including a taiko festival in October and a Bon festival dance in August
