What to expect

San Giorgio Maggiore is one of the most photographed basilicas in Venice, known for its stunning views of the main island. The basilica, designed by Andrea Palladio, features a brilliant marble façade and a spacious interior with various paintings by Tintoretto. Visitors can climb to the top of the bell tower for a superb view of Venice. The island is also home to the Cini Foundation arts centre and the Teatro Verde open-air theatre. The church's three floors contain several notable artworks, including a painting by Sebastiano Ricci, 'Madonna enthroned with Saints', considered the masterpiece of San Giorgio Maggiore
