Ponte dei Pugni

Bridge Venice, Veneto, Italy

What to expect

The Ponte dei Pugni, or Bridge of Fists, is a famous bridge in Venice known for its history of fist fighting between rival clans, the Nicolotti and the Castellani. The bridge is located near the Church of San Barnaba in the Dorsoduro district. The tradition of fighting on the bridge dates back to the 14th century, with the goal of throwing opponents into the canal. The fights were eventually outlawed in 1705 due to their extreme violence. Today, visitors can see the marks on the floor where each clan had to place themselves. The bridge is also close to the Ca' Rezzonico museum and the Gallerie dell'Accademia, making it a great stop for families interested in history and art
