The Gallerie dell'Accademia is a museum gallery of pre-19th-century art in Venice, Italy. It is housed in the Scuola della Carità on the south bank of the Grand Canal, within the sestiere of Dorsoduro. The museum contains masterpieces of Venetian painting up to the 19th century, generally arranged chronologically. Artists represented include Giovanni Bellini, Canaletto, and Titian, among others. The collection was formed from artwork confiscated from public palaces and churches after the Fall of the Republic of Venice in 1797, and was initially used for the training of young artists. Today, it is one of the most significant cases of a nineteenth-century art gallery in Italy

Activities: We visited the Accademia Gallery, one of Italy’s outstanding art museums. We saw Venetian art that spans the 13th to 18th centuries, but it’s virtually all religious art
Highlights: The kids actually liked the Accademia Gallery because it had some unusual maps and globes including one that put the South Pole at the top. It also has a collection of fun, odd and sometimes risqué oil lamps that she found amusing. And a few rooms had elaborate Murano-glas chandeliers ✨
