Peschiera del Garda is a town and comune in the province of Verona, in Veneto, Italy. The town is encircled by massive Venetian defensive systems that have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. The fortress is on an island in the river Mincio at its outlet from Lake Garda. Peschiera del Garda was an important location for military campaigns and was known for its military jail. The commune is part of the Associazione Città del vino and is home to the Sanctuary of Madonna del Frassino, which houses works by Paolo Farinati and Zeno da Verona. The nearby Laghetto del Frassino is a habitat for tufted ducks. The town has a rich history, with evidence of prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements and a Roman town, Ardelica, that occupied the site of the modern Peschiera del Garda
