Museo del Carnevale

The Museo del Carnevale, located in the Cittadella del Carnevale in Viareggio, is a museum showcasing the history and tradition of the Viareggio Carnival. The museum features a collection of allegorical constructs, including papier-mâché works, and offers a glimpse into the techniques used to create the enormous carnival floats. Visitors can explore the hangars where the floats are built and kept, as well as a historical documentation center. The museum also has an important historical archive preserving documents and original sketches that testify to the long history of the Carnival tradition. The museum is suitable for families with children, with exhibits that include models of floats, old carnival posters, and photos. Some of the works on display can be moved using wires or levers, allowing visitors to examine the movements of the floats.
