Fortezza Medicea

The Medici Fortress of Siena, also known as Forte di Santa Barbara, is a historic fortress located near the city's historic centre. The fortress was built on a pre-existing structure and has a quadrangular plan with four pentagonal bastions. It was constructed in the mid-16th century by the Spanish army and later rebuilt by the Medici family. The fortress has a rich history, having been used as a military site, a cultural centre, and now a public park.
