The Medici Fortress of Siena, also known as Forte di Santa Barbara, is a historic fortress located near the city's historic centre. The fortress was built on a pre-existing structure and has a quadrangular plan with four pentagonal bastions. It was constructed in the mid-16th century by the Spanish army and later rebuilt by the Medici family. The fortress has a rich history, having been used as a military site, a cultural centre, and now a public park. Visitors can walk on the centuries-old walls and ramparts, enjoy the tree-lined avenues, and take in the stunning views of the city. The fortress also hosts outdoor events and is home to the Enoteca Italiana di Siena, the oldest Italian wine promoting organisation. It's a great place to visit with family and friends, with plenty of space for relaxation, sports, and cultural activities
