Pienza is a town and comune in the province of Siena, Tuscany, considered the 'touchstone of Renaissance urbanism'. It was rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town by Pope Pius II, who was born in the village of Corsignano, and was renamed Pienza in his honor. The town is known for its well-preserved Renaissance architecture, including the Palazzo Piccolomini, the Duomo, and the Piazza Pio II. Pienza is also famous for its production of pecorino cheese and is often referred to as the 'capital' of pecorino cheese. The town has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 and is a popular tourist destination in Tuscany
