Piazza del Duomo

Square Florence, Tuscany, Italy

What to expect

Piazza del Duomo is the spiritual heart of Florence and the soul of its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The square is home to some of the city's main monuments, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Bell Tower by Giotto, and the Baptistery. The Cathedral, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, is an example of Gothic architecture, while the Bell Tower by Giotto features a complex figurative cycle of the Middle Ages. The Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of the oldest places of worship in Florence, with a fascinating geometric structure and three magnificent gilded bronze portals. The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo houses a vast collection of sculpture from the Florentine Middle Ages and Renaissance, with masterpieces by the greatest artists of the time

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited the Piazza del Duomo and climbed the dome. "The ascent is reserved for a time slot and is completely free, once the health pass has been checked."

Highlights: We enjoyed the climb and the view. The kids enjoyed imagining themselves as bandits, "sneaking into secret passages." The view from the top was "just incredible." ✨
