Loggia dei Lanzi

The Loggia dei Lanzi, also known as the Loggia della Signoria, is a beautiful, arched gallery built in the 14th century in the Piazza della Signoria, right in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. It serves as an open-air sculpture gallery, housing a collection of impressive Renaissance and Roman sculptures. The loggia features wide arches, a late Gothic style, and a beautifully proportioned design. It is home to famous statues such as Benvenuto Cellini's Perseus, Giambologna's The Abduction of the Sabine Women, and other notable works of art. The loggia's history dates back to the reign of Grand Duke Cosimo I, when it was used to house his German mercenary pikemen, known as the Lanzi.
