The Museo Galileo, formerly known as the Institute and Museum of the History of Science, is a museum located in Florence, Italy. The museum is dedicated to astronomer and scientist Galileo Galilei and is housed in Palazzo Castellani, an 11th-century building. It features a valuable collection of scientific instruments, including Galileo's unique artifacts, such as his only two extant telescopes and the framed objective lens from the telescope with which he discovered the Galilean moons of Jupiter. The museum also includes a collection of terrestrial and celestial globes, obstetrical wax models, and experimental apparatus collected by the Lorraine dynasty. The museum carries out research and documentation in the history of science and technology, and its library's book collection is available to scholars
