What to expect

Giotto's Bell Tower, also known as Giotto's Campanile, is a free-standing bell tower that is part of the complex of buildings that make up Florence Cathedral. The tower is a masterpiece of Florentine Gothic architecture, with a square base and a height of 84.7 meters. It has a rich sculptural decoration and polychrome marble encrustations. Visitors can climb the 414 steps to the top for a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding hills. The tower has 12 bells, and the originals of the sculptural cycles have been transferred to the Museum. The climb is not recommended for people with heart conditions or those who suffer from dizziness and claustrophobia
