The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle cover an area of 12 hectares and extend over an altitude difference of 100 metres, offering a stunning view of the 80 different garden landscapes, of the city of Merano and of the surrounding mountain ranges. The gently meandering paths through the garden offer visitors the opportunity to explore four garden worlds home to plants from all over the world, across sunny terraces and past gurgling stream waters. The castle and grounds are now a tourism site and home to the Touriseum, a museum of tourism. The castle has a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque, and features a botanical garden with various plants and a museum showcasing the history of alpine tourism

Activities: We visited the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Meran. We explored the five themed gardens, with the children's highlights being the Wasserspielplatz (water playground) and Tiergehege (animal enclosures). We also saw the Duftorgel (scent organ), the Palmenstrand (palm beach), and the Papageienvoliere (parrot aviary)
Highlights: Our five-year-old was particularly interested in the many exotic plants growing outdoors. The highlight was the "Garten der Verliebten" (Garden of Lovers) with a shallow pool that could be entered barefoot ✨
