Ancient Theatre of Taormina

Theater Taormina, Sicily, Italy

What to expect

The Ancient Theatre of Taormina is an ancient Greek theatre in Taormina, Sicily, built in the third century BC. It is one of the oldest theatres in Magna Graeca to have a curved cavea, rather than the older trapezoidal design. The theatre has a diameter of 107 metres and could hold around 10,000 spectators. It is divided into three main sections: the scene, the orchestra, and the cavea. The theatre is still used today as a venue for various events, including the annual Taormina Film Festival. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Ionian Sea and explore the theatre's ancient architecture, which features excellent acoustics that allow performers to project their voices naturally without modern amplification
