What to expect

Cavagrande del Cassibile is a nature reserve near the towns of Avola, Noto, and Syracuse in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily, Italy. The reserve is known for having one of Europe’s biggest canyons, which is about 10 km long and 300 metres deep. The whole area is surrounded by green colours, ponds, natural pools, waterfalls, limestone steep walls, birds and tiny lizards. It was established in 1990 and it extends for 2,700 ha. The reserve also contains the Necropolis of Cassibile, a large archeological site with a system of caves and tunnels that stretches for about a kilometre, and the Grotta dei Briganti, a cave with a settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. The area offers beautiful panoramic views and trekking opportunities, with several paths, including the Scala Cruci, Sentiero Carrubella, and Scala di Mastra Donna
