Milazzo is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily, southern Italy. The town has a rich history, with several civilizations settling in the area, including the ancient Greeks, who founded the town around 716 BC. Milazzo is located at the base of a peninsula that juts into the Tyrrhenian Sea and is an important centre of the Strait of Messina Metropolitan Area. The town has a population of around 31,500 inhabitants and is known for its historic castle, which was built by the Arabs in the 9th century and later fortified by Frederick II of Hohenstaufen. Milazzo is also a significant point of reference for a vast territory, with over 200,000 inhabitants in the surrounding area
