The Necropoli di Montessu is a prenuragic necropolis in Sardinia, featuring about forty domus de janas tombs with different plans and dimensions. The site includes two impressive sanctuary-tombs, Sa Cresiedda and Sa Grutta de is procus, characterized by semicircles of megaliths, high entrances, and big pavilions used as vestibules. The tombs are decorated with rich carvings, including spirals, festoons, and horns, symbolizing the eyes, the breast of the Mother Goddess, and the Bull God cult. The necropolis dates back to the Late Neolithic age and was frequented until the Nuragic period. Visitors can explore the site and discover the history and significance of this ancient necropolis

Activities: We took an adventure trip to the Feenhäuser (Fairy Houses) of Montessu in Sulcis. We went through a small museum and then followed a steep path up the mountain
Highlights: The "fairy houses" are actually rock tombs. The article says, "Montessu is considered one of the largest collections of these rock tombs on Sardinia." We loved the peacefulness ✨

Activities: We went on a hike to the Necropolis of Montessu near Narcao. We saw the prehistoric rock tombs and the remains of two Nuraghen. "And already on the first meters, a great feeling of happiness arises in all of us."
Highlights: We loved being "in the green." The sun was shining, clouds were in the sky, and the wild broom was fragrant. We found the hike in the "Sardinia with Children" guidebook. "The beautiful little hike to the Necropolis" ✨
