Nuraghe Serra Orrios

Archaeological site Dorgali, Sardinia, Italy

What to expect

The Nuraghe Serra Orrios is a well-preserved nuragic complex and village-sanctuary, built entirely of basalt blocks, representing a purposefully designed proto-urban settlement. The village consists of a hundred circular huts, built with a base of rows of stones and originally covered with branches, which are simple or divided into different rooms. The huts are grouped into three blocks, connected by small streets and squares. The village also features two megalithic tombs and two sacred areas, each with a megaron temple, which were likely dedicated to the water cult. The site provides insight into the daily life of the Nuragic people, with numerous ceramic artefacts, metal items, and other finds on display. Visitors can explore the huts, temples, and tombs, and learn about the history and culture of the Nuragic civilization

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited the Nuraghe Serra Orrios, one of the largest Nuraghen villages on the island. We spent an hour exploring the remnants of houses, marveling at their surprising density and the round shape of the rooms

Highlights: The kids loved running around the ruins, imagining life there. We loved that they could run like in a labyrinth. The article mentions, in spring, the meadows between the buildings bloom and many lizards sit on the walls ✨
