The Castello di Gradara is a medieval fortress situated at 142 metres above sea level, with the Republic of San Marino, Rimini and Carpegna in the background. It represents an extraordinary urban and architectural combination. The castle is the scene of the famous and tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca, caught in each other's arms and killed by Gianciotto, Francesca's husband, which was immortalized by Dante in his Divine Comedy. The castle has two walls, the outermost of which extends for almost 800 metres, making it an imposing structure. Visitors can stroll on the 300mt panoramic walk along the ancient Ramparts Walk and enjoy the splendid panorama with the Marche pleasant hills and the Romagna coast. The castle also features a Historical Museum with a unique collection of antic objects and historical documents, including armours, on scale reproductions of armies, torture and peasant objects. The village offers excellent Marchigiano-Romagnola cuisine, with traditional gastronomic dishes and delicacies, and hosts events such as the Medieval Age at Table and the Castle Siege of 1446, a historical re-enactment with actors, horses and special effects
