The Trenino Rosso del Bernina is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most spectacular railway lines in the world, connecting Northern Europe to the South. The Rhaetian Railway is the highest altitude railway tract in the Alps, reaching nearly 2250 meters, and one of the steepest friction-based railways in the world. The train passes through some of the world's most striking landscapes, crossing lush green meadows and the imposing glaciers of the Bernina and passing alongside rivers and lakes. Passengers can leave the train and explore typical Alpine villages, or hike through the Swiss Alps, following one of the many well-marked itineraries. The train journey starts from Tirano, a small town located in the heart of Valtellina, along the course of the Adda River, on the border with Switzerland. The town has a rich history and culture, with many noble palaces and a beautiful Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano
