What to expect

The Castello Sforzesco is a medieval fortification located in Milan, northern Italy. It was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the remnants of a 14th-century fortification. The castle has been renovated and enlarged over the centuries and now houses several of the city's museums and art collections. It features a square-plan castle with 200 m-long sides, four towers at the corners, and up to 7-metre-thick walls. The castle has a rich history, having been the main residence of the Visconti lords and later the Sforza family. It has also been used as a citadel and has undergone several restorations, including a major one by Luca Beltrami in 1891-1905
