Basilica Sant'Andrea delle Valle

Church Rome, Latium, Italy

What to expect

The Basilica Sant'Andrea della Valle is a beautiful church in Rome, Italy. It was initially financed by Cardinal Alfonso Gesualdo for the Order of Theatines and was begun in 1591. The church features a spectacular dome, designed by Carlo Maderno, which is the highest in Rome after St Peter's. The interior has a high barrel vault and a spacious apse, with four paintings in the vault of the nave celebrating the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. The church also features several chapels, including the Cappella Ginnetti and the Strozzi Chapel, which contain beautiful works of art, such as sculptures and frescoes. The exterior of the church is equally impressive, with a high and sumptuous travertine façade added by Carlo Rainaldi in the second half of the 17th century. Visitors can admire the beautiful dome, the frescoes, and the sculptures, making it a great place to visit with family and friends
