Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo is a large urban square in Rome, located inside the northern gate in the Aurelian Walls. The square is home to several notable landmarks, including the Egyptian obelisk of Sety I, the twin churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto, and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo. The piazza is also surrounded by several streets, including the Via del Corso, Via del Babuino, and Via di Ripetta. The square has a rich history, having been the site of public executions in the past, and has been redesigned several times over the centuries, with its current layout being designed by the architect Giuseppe Valadier in the early 19th century.
