Knights of Malta keyhole

Keyhole Rome, Latium, Italy

What to expect

The Knights of Malta keyhole is a unique spot in Rome that offers a breathtaking view of St Peter's Basilica through a keyhole. Located in Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, the keyhole is part of the Magistral Villa, the institutional seat of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The view is framed by a thick laurel hedge, giving the illusion that the dome is larger and closer. The piazza was designed by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who also designed the church of Santa Maria del Priorato in the grounds of the villa. Visitors can enjoy the view at any time of day or night, and it's a great spot for families to experience a different perspective of the city
