Thermes de Caracalla

Ancient ruins Rome, Latium, Italy

What to expect

The Baths of Caracalla, also known as the Thermae Antoninianae, are a large and well-preserved ancient Roman thermal complex located in Rome, Italy. The baths were built between 212 and 216 AD during the reign of Emperor Caracalla and were the second-largest public baths in Rome after the Baths of Diocletian. The complex features a rectangular plan with a central body and symmetrical sides, and includes various rooms such as the calidarium, tepidarium, frigidarium, and natatio. The baths were not only a place for bathing and body care but also a location for strolling, studying, and socializing. The original decoration was sumptuous, with marble columns, colored oriental marbles, mosaics, and hundreds of statues. Today, the Baths of Caracalla are a popular tourist attraction and also host cultural events, including opera performances
