Granai del Foro

Museum Pompei, Campania, Italy

What to expect

The Granai del Foro, or Grain Market, is a historic building in Pompeii that was originally used as a market for cereals, herbs, and dried pulses. The building is narrow and elongated, with a unique hall divided into two spaces by short cross walls. The facade consists of a series of pillars flanking eight entrances. Today, it is used as a storage and display area for archaeological findings, including terracotta pottery, marble tables, and casts of victims of the eruption. The building is also home to a collection of amphorae, which were used to transport oil, wine, and fish sauces from around the Mediterranean. With its spacious and high interior, the Granai del Foro is an interesting place to visit and learn about the daily life of the people of Pompeii
