The Foro, or Forum, is the main square of the ancient city of Pompeii. It was the center of religious, political, judicial, and commercial life, surrounded by important buildings such as the Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Jupiter. The square was originally paved with beaten earth, but was later paved with concrete and slabs of tuff, and finally with travertine slabs. The area was heavily damaged by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and has since been excavated and explored. Visitors can see the remains of the square and the surrounding buildings, and get a glimpse into what life was like in ancient Pompeii.
