Certosa di San Martino

Museum Naples, Campania, Italy

What to expect

The Certosa di San Martino is a former monastery complex, now a museum, located in Naples, Italy. The complex was finished and inaugurated in 1368 and was dedicated to St. Martin of Tours. It was expanded in the 16th century and again in 1623 under the direction of architect Cosimo Fanzago. Today, the buildings house the National Museum of San Martino, which displays Spanish and Bourbon era artifacts, as well as a renowned Nativity scene. The museum also features a beautiful courtyard, gardens, and a cloister. Visitors can enjoy a stunning view of the bay from the monastery

Visiting Naples with the family: the best + itinerary
This family's experience:

Activities: We then went to the Stazione Augusteo to take the central funicular up to the Vomero hill, another district in Naples. We visited the Certosa di San Martino, which we could see from Piazza Municipio that morning. From these heights, we enjoyed panoramic views of Naples, the bay, and the Vesuvius volcano in the distance

Highlights: We loved the panoramic views of Naples and the Vesuvius volcano from the Certosa di San Martino. The kids were fascinated by the large cloister with its beautiful colonnades and the section on Neapolitan Nativity scenes in the museum ✨
