Castel Sant'Elmo is a medieval fortress located on Vomero Hill in Naples, Italy. The castle offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples and has a rich history dating back to the 1200s. It was built on the remains of a pre-existing fortified residence and was designed by Pedro Luis EscrivĂ , a military engineer from Valencia. The castle has served as a citadel, a military prison, and is now home to the Campania Museum Complex and the Museum of the Twentieth Century. The museum features a permanent collection of works of art created by Neapolitan artists and those who were active in Naples, showcasing various artistic movements from the nineteenth-century landscape tradition to futurism.
