The Parco della Murgia Materana is a regional park located in the Basilicata region of Italy. The park is characterized by a soft rock called 'tuff' which has played an essential role in shaping the landscape, creating cliffs, gorges, and caves used by humans since prehistoric times. The park features over 150 rock churches, including San Leonardo, San Giacomo, Cappuccino vecchio, and Santa Cesarea, which were carved into the rock in the early Middle Ages. The park is also home to a varied and wild nature, with approximately 1,200 botanical species, and a wide range of wildlife, including foxes, hares, porcupines, and birds of prey. Visitors can explore the park's many trails, visit the rock churches, and learn about the park's history and nature at the CEA Environmental Education Centre.
