Gormanston Castle

Castle Balbriggan, County Meath, Ireland

What to expect

Gormanston is a village in County Meath, Ireland, located near the mouth of the River Delvin and the northern border of County Dublin. The village has a rich history, with several ancient sites, including passage graves and a prehistoric dugout. Gormanston Castle, a castellated building with a quadrangular plan, was the seat of the Preston family from the 14th century until it was sold to the Franciscan Order of Friars in the late 1940s. The castle is now part of Gormanston College, a co-educational day and boarding school. The village has a peaceful environment, with mature trees and hedgerows, and is home to Gormanston Wood nursing home and Gibney's pub. There are opportunities to enhance the village core, including improving the main access route and exploring pedestrian connections to the train station and the coast
