What to expect
Doolough is a coastal townland in County Mayo, Ireland, covering an area of approximately 2,493 acres. The townland has a rich history, with the arrival of Anglo-Norman families in the 16th century and the construction of a castle in the area. The castle was later passed into the hands of various landlords, including the Shaens, Carters, and Binghams. During the Irish Famine, a substantial road was constructed to connect Doolough to Belmullet, and the area was also home to a coastguard station. Today, visitors can explore the townland's natural beauty, including its coastline and sandy beaches. The area is also known for its historical significance, with many vessels having been lost along the coastline over the years
