The castle was built between 1235 and 1250 and features a large rectangular building with base-batter, originally containing only a hall on the upper level and storerooms at ground level. The castle was restored in 2005 and features fine carving on the exterior of the doorway and on the inner side of two of the window openings, with capitals carved with floral motifs in a local style known as the 'School of the West'. The castle is a significant historical site and offers a comprehensive medieval experience, with a 20-minute film providing visitors with a detailed appreciation of the castle's long history
