The castle was built nearly 600 years ago by the great chieftain Cormac MacCarthy and features a partial ruin with some accessible rooms and battlements. At the top of the castle lies the Stone of Eloquence, better known as the Blarney Stone, which is said to give the gift of eloquence to those who kiss it. The castle grounds include extensive gardens with paths touring the grounds, signs pointing out various attractions such as natural rock formations, and a poison garden with numerous poisonous plants. Visitors can explore the castle's labyrinth of underground passages, the dungeon, and the watch tower. Visitors can climb the stone steps to the battlements and enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside
