Memorial Cobh, County Cork, Ireland

What to expect

The Lusitania Memorial is a magnificent structure located in the centre of Casement Square in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. It is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the sinking of RMS Lusitania during the First World War. The memorial expresses gratitude to the fishermen of the locality who saved many lives and is a symbol of a desire for universal peace. The memorial features life-size images of the Angel of Peace and two exhausted and weeping fishermen, sculpted by Jerome Connor. The sinking of the Lusitania resulted in the deaths of 1,198 people, and many of the victims were brought to Cobh, with 173 buried in the Old Church cemetery just outside the town.
