Pura Tirta Empul temple

Temple Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

What to expect

Pura Tirta Empul temple is a sacred Hindu Balinese water temple located in Bali, Indonesia. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the god of water, and is famous for its holy spring water, which is believed to have healing properties. The temple compound consists of a petirtaan or bathing structure, where Balinese Hindus go to for a ritual purification called Melukat. Visitors can explore the temple's courtyards, admire its intricate architecture, and absorb the peaceful energy of the site. The temple is considered one of the five most holy temples in Bali and is a significant spiritual destination. The holy springs bubble up into a large, crystal-clear pool within the temple and gush out through 30 waterspouts into two sacred purification pools. Local Balinese and Hindu worshippers stand in long lines in the pools waiting to dip their heads under the waterspouts in a purification ritual
