Tirta Empul is a Hindu Balinese water temple located near the town of Tampaksiring, Bali, Indonesia. The temple compound consists of a petirtaan or bathing structure, famous for its holy spring water, where Balinese Hindus go to for a ritual purification called Melukat. The temple pond has a spring which gives out fresh water regularly, which Balinese Hindus consider to be holy or amritha. Tirta Empul which means holy spring that arises from the ground. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of water, and is considered one of the five most holy temples in all of Bali. It is a sacred place of worship for the locals, but tourists from all over the world are welcome to experience the beauty and participate in the purification rituals. The temple has several holy springs which are said to have been created by The God Indra and believed to be blessed water that could purify those who bathe there. Locals believe that the sacred water flowing at the Tirta Empul Temple has the power to heal and cleanse their bodies and souls
