Hawa Mahal is a palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, known as the "palace of winds". It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and is a unique example of Hindu Rajput architecture with Islamic Mughal influences. The palace has 953 small windows and balconies that resemble a honeycomb, allowing royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals without being seen. The lattice design also allows cool air to pass through, making the area more pleasant during high temperatures. The palace is a five-storey pyramidal shaped monument that rises to about 50 feet and is built from red and pink sandstone. It is an extended part of a huge complex and has delicately modelled hanging cornices, stone-carved screens, and small casements. The palace is considered one of the iconic symbols of the state of Rajasthan and is a popular tourist spot
