Elephanta Island, also known as Gharapuri, is a popular tourist destination located in Mumbai Harbour, east of Mumbai, India. The island is home to the famous Elephanta Caves, a collection of rock-cut temples dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries. The caves feature intricate carvings and sculptures, including the iconic 20-foot-high trimurti Sadashiva, a three-headed bust of Shiva. The island is also thickly wooded with palm, mango, and tamarind trees, and has a population of around 1,200 people. Activities: We spent the day on an excursion to Elephanta Island. The crossing of the Bombay bay is done by boat from the Gateway of India and lasts about 45 minutes. On site, a small tourist train takes you to the entrance of the site, which amused the children a lot
Highlights: We enjoyed the visit, which was very popular with the children, a little away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We played hide and seek in the seven caves with their magnificent sculptures of the Hindu god Shiva carved into the rock ✨
