Nandi Hills is a hill station in Karnataka State, India. The range of Nandi on the craggy hills holds the shimmering Amrita Sarovar Lake and offers walks of sylvan beauty. A popular health resort today, it was also the place Tipu Sultan and assorted royalty retired when they sought to escape the din of battle and the heat of the plains. The hills are located about 60 km north of Bangalore and 1478 meters above sea level. Nandi Hills was developed by Ganga Dynasty in the 11th century and was also used by Tipu Sultan as a summer retreat. The hills have a rich history, with the first ever SAARC summit hosted by India held at Nandi Hills in 1986. Watching the sunrise at Nandi Hills is popular with tourists. The hills have several temples, including the Yoga Nandeeshwara temple, and offer breathtaking views from the top, including the 60-meter cliff known as Tippu's Drop
